As an official partner of KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH, we would like to present to you some of the top travel highlights of our Fächerstadt (fan-shaped city) on this page.
Founded in 1715, the planned city in the heart of Baden offers a visitor-friendly atmosphere and first-class conditions for a wide range of activities – ranging from culture and architecture to sports and leisure as well as modern media and technology.
Thanks to an ideal topography, the UNESCO City of Media Arts with its population of over 300,000 also invites visitors to explore the rich variety of sights and activities comfortably by bike, on foot, or using the well-developed public transportation network.
Karlsruhe Zoo
South Entrance -
Bahnhofsplatz 4, 76137 Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe’s most popular tourist destination sits right on our hotel’s doorstep — the zoological garden, established in 1865, is not only one of Germany’s oldest zoos but is also considered one of the most beautiful thanks to its expansive 22-hectare grounds and impressive park facilities.
With over 300 animal species, its large rose garden, the Oberwald Wildlife Park, and the vast lake where gondolas glide across the water, the Karlsruhe Zoo offers a diverse range of attractions for all ages.
The southern entrance to the zoo is less than a minute’s walk from our hotel.
The Baroque palace, planned and built from 1715 as the residence of the Margrave, remains Karlsruhe’s most popular and most-visited landmark to this day.
The Karlsruhe Castle not only serves as the focal point of Karlsruhe’s distinctive fan-shaped city layout, but since 1921 has also been home to the Baden State Museum, which showcases an impressive collection of art and historical exhibits.
From the Hotel am Tiergarten, you can reach the palace, located about 2.5 km away, by bike or in just under 15 minutes via tram line 2 (toward Wolfartsweier).
Please note that the Karlsruhe Castle, including the Baden State Museum, will be temporarily closed to visitors starting at the end of 2025 due to renovation work.
